My 1st rally

WENATCHEE RIGHT TO LIFE   


I never had any interest in ever being involved in any rally or march of any kind; way out of my comfort zone. But I did this year June 24th in Wenatchee at the Chelan County Courthouse.  Their Right To Life rally was held at the anniversary of overturned Roe. Usually, they are in January all across the land. And still are on the anniversary of the Roe decision in 1973. But the Wenatchee group went with the new date. 
Being my 1st rally of any kind, I really had no idea what to expect.  Would there be cameras, a television crew, protestors? There was none of that. The only camera there belonged to the group. No protest, no drama, no disrespect of any kind. I was greatly relieved. 



There was around 100 or so in attendance, of all ages, and several speakers. My most interesting observation was the number of men present. They outnumbered the ladies. It wasn't even 50/50, maybe 60/40. I was surprised by this.

After the speeches there was a march around the block for those that wanted to, which most did. They were greeted by lots of waves and honking horns.  The only fly in the ointment that I saw was a woman who drove by waging her finger, as if to say, no, no, no. 

Will I ever go to another one? I am really not sure. I am grateful it was a good experience, but still out of my comfort zone.

MY TURN. (Written July, 2022)

June 24, 2022, since Roe was overturned everyone has their own ideas, thoughts, opinions on the issue. All the people I know have thankfully been respectful of others opinion, even when some have a different set of facts. I find that so interesting, facts used to be just that, indisputable, but no more.  All kinds of reports, memes, and others' opinions have been copied and pasted all over the place. Some I can latch on to, some I find misguided and foolish. A lot of people are just followers, especially the young ones.









Back in 1972 the Supreme Court consisted of 9 all male, 8 white and one man of color. 7 voted for Roe, 2 against. This decision they issued January 22, 1973, legalizing abortion across the nation. Colorado legalized abortion in 1967, Hawaii in 1970, followed by New York, Alaska & Washington. So, states were already making their own decisions, which would have probably snowballed across the land in short order, if the Court hadn't of intervened. I honestly don't see the big deal, putting this ball back into the state courts, no matter where you stand on the issue. It shouldn't be in any court for that matter. But but but, no stop; it will always be available, safe and legal for anyone hell bent on getting an abortion, no matter their situation. It just might not be as convenient in some areas. And that's a good thing, giving woman a bit more time to think, not make a knee jerk decision, gather more information before they travel 100 miles or more for this. And while you are driving across the states, look into the mirror and tell yourself you would make a great Mom, and turn around.

And here is another thought: look at those 9 men, (7 actually) who decided this and think about all the abortions performed throughout their lives. I bet my life (well almost), that a majority of these men have been responsible for abortions themselves. People do a lot of things to justify their own actions. Just a thought.

           Have you ever heard of Adrian, Oregon? I never have until last month. Adrian is home of the Antelopes, with green and yellow colors. With a population in July, 2021 of 177, Adrian became last weekend's destination. When I started doing half marathons 5 years ago, I regularly search on-line for races in my area and beyond.  My favorite is a half marathon calendar site. ONCE UPON A DRESSER

Finished The dresser right out of Skip's barn Love the detail in the top drawer. Might be the only reason I bought it.  Now the work. Always more then I think needs done.  I wanted legs, so Jeff had to put supports and 1x4's in so I could screw the foot plates down. Then since the drawer tracks were broke and very wobbly we got new ones and he had to anchor a strip of wood to secure the tracks onto.  Now no more movement in the drawers, nice and smooth. After a few coats of primer, it is ready to paint.  If it looks a little gray, it is.  I had gray primer for some black pieces I painted a while back and it worked just fine.   (See 2009 Blog for black pieces) I did very little sanding to the top before I started and that was it. White paint & a few top coats. I did have to fill in and make new holes for the handles.  They don't make that size anymore. All done are ready to use. Still love t...

Repurposed window

I can finally write about another repurposed item. Actually this is only my 2nd one. You will have to read my Sept. 2009 blog for the other one. The recipients of this item, Paul & Bridget finally were given their wedding gift. There is a story behind this window: I retrieved this window some time ago from upstairs in my parents garage, where all old things go to retire. This window I could tell from the hinge holes and various colors of paint, green & pink mainly, that if came from my Grandma Cameron's house in Washtucna. It was in their bathroom but I couldn't tell you when it was removed. The process was relatively easy with Jeff and I both working on the frame. We removed the original glass, scraped and cleaned up the panes, along with the frame. After a few coats of white spray paint, we reinstalled the glass with putty. It then went to daughter Audra to put the finishing touches on it, as it was a gift from her anyway. As with any g...
